At the time of the 2010 Census, Burgaw had a population of 3,872 people (or 7.42% of the total population of Pender County). This makes Burgaw the county's most populous community.

The population of Burgaw represents 0.04% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 164th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,872 people, the population of Burgaw increased 16.03% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 3,337 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Burgaw was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Burgaw post office opened in 1879.

We also found Burgaw in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
