At the time of the 2010 Census, Belmont had a population of 10,076 people. This makes Belmont the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Belmont represents 0.11% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 83rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 10,076 people, the population of Belmont increased 15.75% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 8,705 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Belmont was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Belmont post office opened in 1886.
