Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Poplar had an population of 840 people. This is an increase of 3.7% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 7.79% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Poplar had a population of 810 people (or 7.77% of the total population of Roosevelt County). This makes Poplar the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Poplar represents 0.08% of the population of Montana (which has 989,415 people), making it the state's 66th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 810 people, the population of Poplar decreased 11.09% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 911 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Poplar was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Poplar post office opened in 1892.
