At the time of the 2010 Census, Plentywood had a population of 1,734 people (which is 51.24% of the total population of Sheridan County). This makes Plentywood the county's most populous community.

The population of Plentywood represents 0.18% of the total population of Montana (which has 989,415 people), making it the state's 42nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,734 people, the population of Plentywood decreased 15.87% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 2,061 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Plentywood was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Plentywood post office opened in 1901.
