The location of Manhattan has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Manhattan, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

When the people of Manhattan refer to themselves (known as a demonym), they frequently use Manhattanite<3>

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Manhattan has a population of 1,907 people<4> (see below for details).

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Manhattan had an population of 1,907 people. This is an increase of 25.46% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 36.6% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Manhattan had a population of 1,520 people. This makes Manhattan the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Manhattan represents 0.15% of the population of Montana (which has 989,415 people), making it the state's 45th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,520 people, the population of Manhattan increased 8.88% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,396 people).
