Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Helena had an population of 33,215 people. This is an increase of 17.83% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 28.84% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Helena had a population of 28,190 people (or 44.47% of the total population of Lewis and Clark County). This makes Helena the county's most populous community.

The population of Helena represents 2.85% of the total population of Montana (which has 989,415 people), making it the state's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 28,190 people, the population of Helena increased 9.35% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 25,780 people).
