While we don't have a date for the founding of Ekalaka, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1925.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Ekalaka has a population of 369 people<4> (see below for details).

Ekalaka is 3,420 feet [1,042 m] above sea level.<5> In other words, the altitude of Ekalaka is about ¾ mile [or ~1 km] above sea level.

Population Details ...

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Ekalaka had an population of 369 people. This is an increase of 11.14% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 10% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ekalaka had a population of 332 people (or 28.62% of the total population of Carter County). This makes Ekalaka the county's most populous community.

The population of Ekalaka represents 0.03% of the total population of Montana (which has 989,415 people), making it the state's 91st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 332 people, the population of Ekalaka decreased 19.02% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 410 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Ekalaka was on a map titled Map of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming (from Rand McNally, 1925).
