The community of Polson is the Seat for Lake County.

Lake County was founded in 1923. Lake was created by taking area from Flathead and Missoula Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lake had a population of 30,586 people. This is an increase of 6.4% since the last Census (which gave a population of 28,746 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lake represented 2.91% of the total population of Montana.
