At the time of the 2010 Census, Quitman had a population of 2,323 people (which is 13.88% of the total population of Clarke County). This makes Quitman the county's most populous community.

The population of Quitman represents 0.08% of the total population of Mississippi (which has 2,967,297 people), making it the state's 93rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,323 people, the population of Quitman decreased 5.68% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,463 people).

We originally found mention of Quitman in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Quitman was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Quitman post office opened in 1836.

We also found Quitman in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
