Yazoo County was founded in 1823 and was created by taking area from Hinds County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Yazoo had a population of 29,698 people. This is an increase of 5.82% since the last Census (which gave a population of 28,065 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Yazoo represented 0.95% of the total population of Mississippi.
