The community of Mendenhall is the Seat for Simpson County.

Simpson County was founded in 1824 and was created by taking area from Copiah County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Simpson had a population of 26,803 people. This is a decrease of 2.55% since the last Census (which gave a population of 27,503 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Simpson represented 0.93% of the total population of Mississippi.
