Copiah County was founded in 1823. Copiah was created by taking area from Franklin and Hinds Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Copiah had a population of 28,099 people. This is a decrease of 4.58% since the last Census (which gave a population of 29,449 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Copiah represented 0.99% of the total population of Mississippi.
