At the time of the 2010 Census, Hannibal had a population of 17,916 people (which is 62.25% of the total population of Marion County). This makes Hannibal the county's most populous community.

We originally found mention of Hannibal in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hannibal was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Hannibal post office opened in 1820.

We also found Hannibal in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
