Montgomery County was founded in 1818 and was created by taking area from Saint Charles County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Montgomery had a population of 11,472 people. This is a decrease of 6.24% since the last Census (which gave a population of 12,236 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Montgomery represented 0.2% of the total population of Missouri.
