Harrison County was founded in 1843 and was created by taking area from Daviess County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Harrison had a population of 8,346 people. This is a decrease of 6.82% since the last Census (which gave a population of 8,957 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Harrison represented 0.15% of the total population of Missouri.
