Bollinger County was founded in 1851. Bollinger was created by taking area from Cape Girardeau, Madison, Stoddard and Wayne Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Bollinger had a population of 12,142 people. This is a decrease of 1.79% since the last Census (which gave a population of 12,363 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Bollinger represented 0.21% of the total population of Missouri.
