At the time of the 2010 Census, Windom had a population of 4,646 people (or 39.75% of the total population of Cottonwood County). This makes Windom the county's most populous community.

The population of Windom represents 0.09% of the total population of Minnesota (which has 5,303,925 people), making it the state's 152nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 4,646 people, the population of Windom increased 3.47% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 4,490 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Windom was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Windom post office opened in 1871.

We also found Windom in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
