At the time of the 2010 Census, Shakopee had a population of 37,076 people (or 28.54% of the total population of Scott County). This makes Shakopee the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Shakopee was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Shakopee post office opened in 1857.
