Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Long Prairie had an population of 3,307 people. This is a decrease of 4.37% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 8.78% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Long Prairie had a population of 3,458 people (which is 13.89% of the total population of Todd County). This makes Long Prairie the county's most populous community.

The population of Long Prairie represents 0.07% of the total population of Minnesota (which has 5,303,925 people), making it the state's 191st most populous community.
