The community of Waseca is the Seat for Waseca County.

Waseca County was founded in 1857 and was created by taking area from Steele County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Waseca had a population of 18,558 people. This is a decrease of 3.02% since the last Census (which gave a population of 19,136 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Waseca represented 0.36% of the total population of Minnesota.
