Renville County was founded in 1855. Renville was created by taking area from Nicollet, and Sibley Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Renville had a population of 14,551 people. This is a decrease of 7.5% since the last Census (which gave a population of 15,730 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Renville represented 0.3% of the total population of Minnesota.
