Goodhue County was founded in 1853. Goodhue was created by taking area from Wabasha and Dakota Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Goodhue had a population of 46,391 people. This is an increase of 0.45% since the last Census (which gave a population of 46,183 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Goodhue represented 0.87% of the total population of Minnesota.
