Freeborn County was founded in 1855. Freeborn was created by taking area from Blue Earth and Rice Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Freeborn had a population of 30,385 people. This is a decrease of 2.78% since the last Census (which gave a population of 31,255 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Freeborn represented 0.59% of the total population of Minnesota.
