Douglas County was founded in 1858. Douglas was created by taking area from Cass and Pembina Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Douglas had a population of 38,070 people. This is an increase of 5.72% since the last Census (which gave a population of 36,009 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Douglas represented 0.68% of the total population of Minnesota.
