Chippewa County was founded in 1870. Chippewa was created by taking area from and  Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Chippewa had a population of 11,756 people. This is a decrease of 5.51% since the last Census (which gave a population of 12,441 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Chippewa represented 0.23% of the total population of Minnesota.
