Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Marquette had an population of 20,993 people. This is a decrease of 1.7% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 6.77% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Marquette had a population of 21,355 people (or 31.84% of the total population of Marquette County). This makes Marquette the county's most populous community.

The population of Marquette represents 0.22% of the population of Michigan (which has 9,883,640 people), making it the state's 51st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 21,355 people, the population of Marquette increased 8.62% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 19,661 people).
