While we don't have a date for the founding of Laurium, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1895.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Laurium had an population of 1,902 people. This is a decrease of 3.79% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 10.54% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Laurium had a population of 1,977 people (which is 5.4% of the total population of Houghton County). This makes Laurium the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Laurium represents 0.02% of the population of Michigan (which has 9,883,640 people), making it the state's 254th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,977 people, the population of Laurium decreased 7.01% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,126 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Laurium was on a map titled Road Map for Michigan (from Shell Oil, 1956).

We also found Laurium in the book titled .<6> From that list, the Laurium post office opened in 1895.
