Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Saco had an population of 19,968 people. This is an increase of 8.04% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 18.7% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Saco had a population of 18,482 people (which is 9.38% of the total population of York County). This makes Saco the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Saco represents 1.39% of the population of Maine (which has 1,328,361 people), making it the state's 11th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 18,482 people, the population of Saco increased 9.87% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 16,822 people).

We originally found mention of Saco in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Saco was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Saco post office opened in 1805.

We also found Saco in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
