From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Thurmont was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Thurmont post office opened in 1894.

We also found Thurmont on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Maryland (1911).
