The community of Lake Charles is the Seat for Calcasieu Parish.

Calcasieu Parish was founded in 1840 and was created by taking area from Saint Landry Parish.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Calcasieu had a population of 204,038 people. This is an increase of 5.85% since the last Census (which gave a population of 192,768 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Calcasieu represented 4.25% of the total population of Louisiana.
