Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Baton Rouge had an population of 220,787 people. This is a decrease of 3.79% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 3.09% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Baton Rouge had a population of 229,493 people (or 52.14% of the total population of East Baton Rouge Parish). This makes Baton Rouge the parish's most populous community.

The population of Baton Rouge represents 5.06% of the total population of Louisiana (which has 4,533,372 people), making it the state's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 229,493 people, the population of Baton Rouge has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (with a count of 227,818 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Baton Rouge was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Baton Rouge post office opened in 1812.
