Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Richmond had an population of 36,191 people. This is an increase of 15.39% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 33.29% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Richmond had a population of 31,364 people (which is 37.83% of the total population of Madison County). This makes Richmond the county's most populous community.

The population of Richmond represents 0.72% of the population of Kentucky (which has 4,339,367 people), making it the state's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 31,364 people, the population of Richmond increased 15.51% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 27,152 people).
