Pike County was founded in 1821 and was created by taking area from Floyd County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Pike had a population of 57,919 people. This is a decrease of 10.93% since the last Census (which gave a population of 65,024 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Pike represented 1.5% of the total population of Kentucky.
