Floyd County was founded in 1800. Floyd was created by taking area from Fleming, Montgomery and Mason Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Floyd had a population of 35,515 people. This is a decrease of 9.98% since the last Census (which gave a population of 39,451 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Floyd represented 0.91% of the total population of Kentucky.
