At the time of the 2010 Census, Lawrence had a population of 87,643 people (or 79.08% of the total population of Douglas County). This makes Lawrence the county's most populous community.

The population of Lawrence represents 3.07% of the total population of Kansas (which has 2,853,118 people), making it the state's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 87,643 people, the population of Lawrence increased 9.42% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 80,098 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lawrence was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Lawrence post office opened in 1855.
