The city of El Dorado is located in Butler County<1> and is the County Seat for Butler County.



While we don't have a date for the founding of El Dorado, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

The origin (or the toponymy) of El Dorado: Named by Captain J. Cracklin, who was so impressed with the area that he named it El Dorado.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, El Dorado has a population of 12,949 people<2> (see below for details).

El Dorado is 1,330 feet [405 m] above sea level.<3>.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, El Dorado had an population of 12,949 people. This is a decrease of 0.55% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 7.4% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, El Dorado had a population of 13,021 people (or 19.76% of the total population of Butler County). This makes El Dorado the county's most populous community.

The population of El Dorado represents 0.46% of the population of Kansas (which has 2,853,118 people), making it the state's 27th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 13,021 people, the population of El Dorado increased 8% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 12,057 people).
