Pottawatomie County was founded February 20, 1857. Pottawatomie was created by taking area from and Riley Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Pottawatomie had a population of 24,468 people. This is an increase of 13.26% since the last Census (which gave a population of 21,604 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Pottawatomie represented 0.76% of the total population of Kansas.
