Crawford County was founded February 13, 1867. Crawford was created by taking area from Bourbon and Cherokee Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Crawford had a population of 38,734 people. This is a decrease of 1.02% since the last Census (which gave a population of 39,134 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Crawford represented 1.37% of the total population of Kansas.
