At the time of the 2010 Census, Greenwood had a population of 49,791 people (or 35.65% of the total population of Johnson County). This makes Greenwood the county's most populous community.

The population of Greenwood represents 0.77% of the total population of Indiana (which has 6,483,802 people), making it the state's 16th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 49,791 people, the population of Greenwood increased 38.17% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 36,037 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Greenwood was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Greenwood post office opened in 1833.
