Wayne County was founded November 27, 1810. Wayne was created by taking area from Clark, Dearborn and Knox Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Wayne had a population of 65,943 people. This is a decrease of 4.32% since the last Census (which gave a population of 68,917 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wayne represented 1.06% of the total population of Indiana.
