At the time of the 2010 Census, Galena had a population of 3,429 people (which is 15.12% of the total population of Jo Daviess County). This makes Galena the county's most populous community.

The population of Galena represents 0.03% of the population of Illinois (which has 12,830,632 people), making it the state's 404th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,429 people, the population of Galena has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (with a count of 3,460 people).
