Boone County was founded in 1837 and was created by taking area from Winnebago County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Boone had a population of 53,281 people. This is a decrease of 1.63% since the last Census (which gave a population of 54,165 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Boone represented 0.42% of the total population of Illinois.
