At the time of the 2010 Census, Montpelier had a population of 2,597 people (which is 43.38% of the total population of Bear Lake County). This makes Montpelier the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Montpelier was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<10>

From that list, the Montpelier post office opened in 1869.

We also found Montpelier in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
