Gem County was founded in 1915. Gem was created by taking area from Boise and Canyon Counties. From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Gem had a population of 18,174 people. This is an increase of 8.7% since the last Census (which gave a population of 16,719 people in 2010). At the time of the 2010 Census, Gem represented 1.07% of the total population of Idaho.
