Jasper County was founded January 13, 1846 and was created by taking area from Mahaska County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Jasper had a population of 37,171 people. This is an increase of 0.89% since the last Census (which gave a population of 36,842 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Jasper represented 1.21% of the total population of Iowa.
