Humboldt County was founded February 26, 1857 and was created by taking area from Webster County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Humboldt had a population of 9,499 people. This is a decrease of 3.22% since the last Census (which gave a population of 9,815 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Humboldt represented 0.32% of the total population of Iowa.
