Hamilton County was founded December 22, 1856 and was created by taking area from Webster County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hamilton had a population of 14,797 people. This is a decrease of 5.59% since the last Census (which gave a population of 15,673 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hamilton represented 0.51% of the total population of Iowa.
