Fannin County was founded in 1854. Fannin was created by taking area from Gilmer and Union Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Fannin had a population of 26,068 people. This is an increase of 10.08% since the last Census (which gave a population of 23,682 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Fannin represented 0.24% of the total population of Georgia.
