Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Palmetto had an population of 13,720 people. This is an increase of 8.84% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 9.14% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Palmetto had a population of 12,606 people. This makes Palmetto the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Palmetto represents 0.07% of the population of Florida (which has 18,801,310 people), making it the state's 141st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 12,606 people, the population of Palmetto has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (with a count of 12,571 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Palmetto was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Palmetto post office opened in 1868.
