Volusia County was founded December 29, 1854 and was created by taking area from Orange County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Volusia had a population of 554,065 people. This is an increase of 12.02% since the last Census (which gave a population of 494,593 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Volusia represented 2.63% of the total population of Florida.
